State-of-the-Art Ballpark

The new Kauffman Stadium has become a breathtaking fusion of energetic surroundings. After years of planning and design, the Royals unveiled an exciting $250 million renovation of a true Kansas City landmark with unsurpassed amenities and state-of-the-art technology that will touch each and every fan entering the park.

Debuting is a spectacular 84' x 104' Crown Vision HD scoreboard, larger and grander entrances, with the chance to explore the stadium via a 360-degree expanded concourse while still keeping tabs on the action on the field, an increase in both concessions and restrooms, and an outfield overhaul that now includes Outfield Box seats in left-center field to give fans a chance to sit and enjoy the game from a venue not previously offered.

Plus, the left-field area is now home to the new 7,000-square foot Hall of Fame, which opened in July of 2009. The Hall of Fame features numerous exciting and interactive exhibits.

Travel behind the Hall of Fame to find the kids area, state-of-the-art batting and pitching cages, five holes of mini-golf, a carousel, a base run, a Game Lounge and more!

  • The first All-Star Game was held as part of the 1933 World's Fair in Chicago, Illinois
  • Arch Ward, then sports editor for The Chicago Tribune, initially intended the game to be a one-time event, its great success resulted in making the game an annual one.
  • Ward's contribution was recognized by Major League Baseball in 1962 with the creation of the "Arch Ward Trophy", given to the All-Star Game's most valuable player each year.
  • Rico Carty was the first player ever selected to an All-Star team as a write-in candidate by fans, in 1970 followed by Steve Garvey in 1974.
  • On July 6, 1983 the only All-Star grand slam in history was hit by Fred Lynn.
  • In 1989, the DH was allowed in the All-Star Game for the first time.
  • Until 2009, each league's All-Star team consisted of 32 players. On July 1, 2009, MLB added a 33rd player to each league's team roster, allowing for an extra pitcher.
  • To date, only two franchises have never hosted a game: the Florida Marlins (although scheduled to host the game in 2000, Major League Baseball moved the game to Atlanta), and the Tampa Bay Rays.
