Football fans across the country are excited to see the Super Bowl return to the San Francisco Bay Area and be played at the new, top-of-the-line Levi’s Stadium. What a fantastic location to house Super Bowl 50!

Here’s an inside look at Levi’s Stadium, a list of exciting activities to do while in the Bay Area, a few travel tips to know before you go, and best of all, a way for you to attend Super Bowl 50.

About Levi’s Stadium

Named “Sports Facility of the Year” by SportsBusiness Journal, Levi’s Stadium is the perfect stadium to house the 50th anniversary of the most prestigious game in professional sports: the Super Bowl.

Levi’s Stadium was recently built in the fall of 2014 and is home to the San Francisco 49ers. This will be the first time the Super Bowl will return to the Bay Area since Super Bowl XIX. At 1.85 million square feet, the stadium boasts a capacity of 75,000 and features 165 luxury suites and 8,500 club seats.

Levi’s Stadium is the next generation of stadium design and reigns supreme as the most technologically advanced venue to ever host a Super Bowl. Out of convenience for attendees, it is the first cashless, ticketless venue with WiFi capability in Super Bowl history.

The stadium is also recognized for its sustainability, being the first professional football stadium with LEED Gold certification. Its 27,000 square foot “Green Roof” and solar energy design elements are truly one of a kind for a Super Bowl stadium.

What to Do in the Bay Area

Although Levi’s Stadium is located in Santa Clara, most of the other action lies in San Francisco! Both Santa Clara and San Francisco are packed with plenty of activities to keep you entertained during your trip.

Here are a few places to put on your list to visit:

  • Golden Gate Bridge: The Golden Gate Bridge is San Francisco’s most popular tourist attraction. This classic landmark can be taken in from all different vantage points and is accessible all day every day.

  • Golden Gate Park: This 1,000 acre parcel of land includes trails, picnic areas, lakes, museums and other charming features. It’s the perfect spot to spend an afternoon.

  • Alcatraz: Alcatraz is a consistently popular attraction in San Francisco. The museum, formerly a penitentiary, sits on a small island in the San Francisco Bay. Take the ferry over to the island and learn the history of the penitentiary and how the prisoners lived. Make sure to book your tickets early!

  • Twin Peaks: If you are looking for some of the best views of the city, you must visit San Francisco’s towering Twin Peaks, which rise 922 feet from the ground. You can either take a stroll up to the top or hitch a cab!

  • Union Square: If you are into art, theater and shopping, Union Square is the place for you. Visit the Tix Booth for area maps, transit passes and half-price tickets to performances.

  • Muir Woods National Monument: To get away from the city for a little while, take a trip to
Muir Woods National Monument and explore the beautiful, 380-foot-tall Redwood Trees. Go for a run, hike the trail or ride a bike through the woods!

  • 49ers Museum: Located in Santa Clara, the 49ers Museum is a 20,000 square foot facility dedicated to the 49ers past, present and future. It’s great for all ages!

  • California’s Great America: If you really want to have some fun, spend a day at California’s Great America, an exciting family-friendly theme park located in Santa Clara.

Travel Tips

If you are traveling by air, you will most likely want to fly into San Francisco International Airport. To get around the Bay Area, you can travel by subway (BART) or buses/streetcars (MUNI). Hailing a cab is a possibility but not a guarantee. Parking is also near impossible in San Francisco, so be aware of that when traveling from site to site.

Most importantly, bring your comfortable shoes because you will be doing a lot of walking, especially if you plan to visit different attractions. The hills will quickly become your best friend or your worst enemy!

The weather in San Francisco is almost always on the chilly side, with temperatures averaging around 60°F in February. You will definitely want to bring warmer clothes such as sweaters and pants and also make sure to dress in layers.

When it comes to restaurants, you should play it safe and make dinner reservations. San Francisco restaurant goers take their food seriously, and you don’t want to miss out on unforgettable food experiences!
