College Football Superlatives for the 2015-2016 Season

By Victoria Barnett

July 10, 2015

We don’t know about you, but we are pumped for football season. It’s such an exciting time of year, and we love that seriously anything can happen during the season, in the playoff, and of course in the National Championship.

It may only be July, but we have football on our minds so why not make predictions and assign a few superlatives? Take a look below at who we think is the most talented quarterback heading into the 2015 season, which team has the most loyal fan base, what the most anticipated games are, and last but certainly not least, who is most likely to win the
College Football Playoff National Championship!

Most Talented Quarterback

Gold: Trevone Boykin

TCU’s Trevone Boykin has the potential to capture TCU’s second-ever Heisman, as he currently sits as the new favorite to win the award. In 2014, he had 4,608 total yards (3,901 passing) and 41 total touchdowns. Boykin absolutely destroys on the field and ranked in the top 10 in 2014 for passing yards per game and touchdowns.

Silver: Cody Kessler

With 3,826 yards passing and 38 touchdowns, USC’s Cody Kessler has incredible accuracy and strength. He tallied the most passing touchdowns last season and finished third nationally in Passer Rating. He also didn’t have a single outing with multiple interceptions. Plus, his completion rate only fell below 60% once in the 2014 season.  There’s no doubt he’ll lead USC‘s offense to be among the best in the nation in 2015.

Bronze: Dak Prescott

Mississippi State’s Dak Prescott will enter 2015 as the SEC’s top quarterback. He put on an impressive showing in 2014 and recorded 4,435 yards passing and 41 total touchdowns. Last season, Mississippi State sat at the No. 1 ranking for weeks due in part to Prescott’s impeccable play. Not only has he grown as a passer, but his running game makes him a very dangerous quarterback.

Most Anticipated Games of 2015

Gold: Baylor at TCU

TCU fell to the Bears last season, and it’s assumed this was a big reason the Horned Frogs were left out of the College Football Playoff. Both TCU and Baylor have high chances of going undefeated in the 2015 season, and this game may very well decide their fate.

Silver: Michigan State at Ohio State

This matchup will be the toughest for Ohio State during regular season. With Michigan State’s Connor Cook and Ohio State’s Ezekiel Elliott (plus whoever their QB will be), this game will be quite the showdown.

Bronze: Alabama at Auburn

The classic Iron Bowl game between Alabama and Auburn has become one of the most important of the season. Not only is this one of the best rivals in College Football, but it many times decides who will win the SEC West title.

Honorable Mentions: Florida State at Clemson, Oregon at Michigan State, Alabama at Georgia

Most Loyal Fan Base

Gold: Alabama

Alabama fans and their “Roll Tide” rally cry can be heard loud and clear. These diehard fans are some of the most intense and supportive in all of sports. If you know an Alabama fan, you know exactly what I’m talking about. Alabama’s attendance is also one of the highest in the nation, which comes as no surprise.

Silver: Ohio State

THE Ohio State University has a passionate fan base that always shows up for every home game and makes an effort to go to the away games as well. The fans treat every game likes it’s the biggest game of the season which certainly makes for a memorable experience. Coming off of last year’s National Championship, we can expect these fans to be even more intense than they already are.

Bronze: Michigan

Michigan is the all-time winningest program in the history of college football so it makes sense that they have one of the most loyal fan bases. Michigan boasts the highest attendance per home game year after year. It doesn’t matter how great or how not so great Michigan plays, the Maize and Blue fans are loyal until the day they die.

Most Likely to Win the National Championship

Gold: Ohio State

Ohio State won the 2015 National Championship and is the favorite to repeat next year. They have several young and talented players returning for the 2015 season so there’s no doubt they will be a powerhouse. Not to mention, they probably have the strongest quarterback core of all teams.

Ohio State also has one of the more manageable paths to the National Championship, with Michigan State being their biggest challenge. Overall, Ohio State has good chances, but I think there are a few teams that could certainly dethrone the Buckeyes such as TCU, Alabama, and Auburn.

Silver: TCU

After being left out of the playoff last year, I think we can all agree TCU will be one hungry team looking to absolutely devour any team that gets in their way of the National Championship. They definitely have the talent to take it all the way, especially with the return of quarterback Trevone Boykin.

The biggest losses for TCU in the 2015 season are on defense, so it will be interesting to see the adjustments they make this year. TCU has a fairly manageable schedule, but they do have two big games against Baylor and Oklahoma.

Bronze:  Alabama

Like usual, Alabama is at the top of list to win the National Championship. Even after falling to Ohio State in the playoff last year, I’m sure Nick Saban and his boys will make a run at it once again. But there’s no denying he has quite a few holes to fill including replacing quarterback Blake Sims and wide receiver Amari Cooper.

Alabama also has one of the hardest paths to the National Championship with a brutal SEC schedule. I almost gave this spot to Auburn because I think the two will be neck-and-neck throughout the season, assuming Auburn’s offense finds its groove and flows as smoothly as I think it will.
